The Queensland Wing Chun Kung Fu Academy

The Academy is Queensland’s oldest and one of the most prestigious Wing Chun schools in the country. For over three decades it has produced students and instructors of the highest calibre, many have gone on to open their own schools and teach their own version of Wing Chun throughout Australia and the world.

The Academy was established by Sifu Ian Protheroe in 1986 (BN2969713) to pass on the teachings of Classical Wing Chun. The traditional training includes the open hand forms of Sil Lim Tao, Chum Kil and Bil Jee, the Muk Yan Jong (wooden dummy) and chi sao (sticky hands) practice. The two weapons of the system, Butterfly Swords and Dragon Pole are taught with particular attention to form as well as practical application. The progressive training methods build strength, character, confidence and integrity.

Group classes are held on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 7.00-8.30pm and on Saturday mornings 9.00-10.30am at Holland Park State High school for 50 weeks of the year. Classes have been at this same venue for over 25 years!

Sifu Ian Protheroe and Simo Heather Protheroe oversee every class assisted by a core Instructor group of 10. Classes are predominately for adults with a high number of female students and Instructors.
